    We Got This Covered
    August 10, 2016

It's a great twist that works in more ways than one.

    Den of Geek
    August 02, 2016

Tonight's episode mainly paired most of the main cast in teams of two to varying degrees of entertainment.

    July 26, 2016

Loved the MMB/Marie/Queenie stuff, loved the Zoe/Spalding stuff... liked the Fiona having sex with Axeman a whole lot less. Fun episode, but not the best. The show however, still is.

    HitFix
    July 26, 2016

Lange is a great talent who gets all the best material -- it's as if the writers expend all their creative energy on fleshing out Fiona and, exhausted, hand out whatever dribs and drabs they can to the rest of the characters.

    Rolling Stone
    July 20, 2016

"It wasn't only a different time. It was a different world," LaLaurie pleads with Queenie. It is a testament to Kathy Bates' phenomenal acting skills that her statement holds any emotional or narrative water whatsoever, because come on.

    New York Magazine/Vulture
    July 19, 2016

This episode was written by co-creator Brad Falchuk, and he injected it with his usual mixture of humor, awe, and dark, dark tomfoolery.

    TV.com
    July 19, 2016

This episode smelled VERY weird, you guys. I know it is TV and therefore shouldn't smell but I definitely had to put eucalyptus rub under my nostrils like in Silence of the Lambs. But "The Dead" was also a VERY good episode.

    TV Equals
    July 12, 2016

I gotta hand it to American Horror Story: Coven -- it really knows how to keep viewers guessing.

    Slant Magazine
    July 12, 2016

"The Dead" offers a bleak corrective to any potentially incoherent, pandering dissonances of the past.

    ScreenRant
    July 07, 2016

What the show is getting at with the rest of its subplots is only now becoming apparent, so there's still a chance something will come of what Murphy and Falchuk are getting at with the overarching premise of the season.
