  • Critic Reviews of "Ex Machina"

    BuzzFeed News
    November 10, 2015

Ex Machina is a disquieting power struggle waged in terms of human weaknesses, refracted through gender.

    The Atlantic
    October 14, 2015

Ex Machina has a precise visual sheen that evokes David Fincher, and earns the sudden, quiet, powerful scares of his best work.
    April 25, 2015

Ex Machina is the best movie I've seen all year.

    Denver Post
    April 24, 2015

    [A] methodically absorbing sci-fi drama.

    Miami Herald
    April 24, 2015

Garland's primary concern is his flesh-and-blood characters, even though they are not nearly as showy (or beautiful) as his main attraction, the vulnerable, delicate girl with a heart of steel and wires.

    Globe and Mail
    April 24, 2015

A clever film with one indelible performance from Isaac.

    Sunday Times (UK)
    February 28, 2017

[Isaac] is superb as a psychopathic Steve Jobs type in Ex Machina, a creepily sexualised but ultimately impressive little sci-fi thriller directed by the British novelist Alex Garland.

    Film Inquiry
    February 24, 2017

Alex Garland's Ex Machina is a chilling view of the future of AI, brought to captivating life through the performances of Isaac, Gleeson, and Vikander.

    Washington Free Beacon
    July 14, 2016

Alex Garland's Ex Machina uses a compelling, well-contained story to examine society's growing anxieties, something he's made a habit of doing throughout his career.

    Japan Times
    June 09, 2016

    A remarkable sci-fi classic.

    May 28, 2016

A crackling good entertainment, a brainy science fiction picture executed in a clean, concise style, with a narrative as logical as it is unpredictable.

    Epoch Times
    May 23, 2016

Despite Ava's revealing circuitry, it is the notable sort of science fiction film that is far more reliant on ideas than effects.
